about You

Management Level

Running a law firm can be both rewarding and very challenging. Law school may have taught you how to run a case but they failed to teach you how to run a business. Law firm managers have to learn ‘on-the job’. Whilst we 100% love experiential learning, sometimes you need an external view.

The benefits of management training include

  • keeping up with industry changes: The legal industry is constantly evolving, and law firm management needs to stay up-to-date on the latest trends, technologies, and regulations in order to provide the best possible service to clients.
  • improving leadership skills: Effective leadership is essential for any successful law firm. Management training can help develop leadership skills such as communication, motivation, delegation, and decision-making.
  • enhancing business acumen: Law firm management must have a strong understanding of business concepts such as finance, marketing, and strategic planning in order to run the firm efficiently and effectively.
  • increasing productivity and efficiency: Training can help law firm management learn new tools and techniques to streamline operations, manage resources, and optimize workflow, leading to increased productivity and efficiency.
  • fostering a culture of learning: Investing your own training and development management can inspire staff to do the same and create a culture of growth and improvement.

The SRA continuing competence framework (CCF) requires that all solicitors maintain their competence and identify their learning and development needs. They must then create and implement a learning and development plan to address these needs. The plan should cover a range of areas, including business and practice management.  You should maintain records to show how you have reflected on your training needs and implemented a program of development.

WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU

SUPPORT

In the good old days, becoming a solicitor was called being an articled clerk. You would sit with your master and literally learn by watching what they did and how they did it. Over the years this form of mentorship has slowly started to disappear. As the legal profession had commoditised and become more of a business, the role of a trainee has become more of a fee earner and as such opportunities just to watch and learn by copying have lessened. With SQE, this need for independent learning has increased.

Our membership includes ongoing support. If you have a question, even if you think it’s a silly question, you can ask us – there is no need to find someone in your office who has the time and desire to help you develop. After all, they have targets and pressures to deal with and they may just not have the time that you need.

MENTORING

We want you to be the absolute best lawyer possible. Our whole aim is to help you develop. We are here to help you find your feet, develop your own professional practice, climb to great heights. Your achievements are our reward. Yes, that means we will sometimes push you out of your comfort zone. But we will be here to help you every step of the way. Law is a competitive profession; you need a mentor to help navigate and find introductions and new opportunities.

CAREER COACH

Sometimes the legal profession can be one giant treadmill. Your aim is to qualify, this is then replaced with another – manager, department head, partner, senior partner, own firm. These predetermined goals may not actually suit you and once you are on that treadmill there isn’t always time to reflect if its right for you. We are here to help you work out what type of lawyer you are and what you want to be and do. Have you ever thought of alternative careers such as legal ops, legal project management etc? We can help you plan what you need to get to where you want to be, your own professional development plan.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

Does your current role not offer the opportunity to develop some of the professional skills such as advocacy, drafting, and meeting clients?  We understand that some paralegal roles can be quite restrictive and repetitive and not have much opportunity to develop your professional competencies. We can offer you opportunities to practice and develop skills with genuine feedback and, more importantly feedforward.

COMMERCIAL AND BUSINESS SKILLS

With SQE we anticipate that there will be a lot of newly qualified and early career lawyers looking for advancement. We have run law firms; we know what the commercial and business skills are that we look for in new recruits. We can help you develop those skills, developing both a theoretical and practical understanding so that you can add value in your current role and any new position you see.

We offer a number of training courses and professional development workshops to develop you.
